Calendula oil for hair: benefits and recipe for homemade masks
Calendula is a Mediterranean plant with pretty bright orange flowers (also called marigold flowers) that blooms from April to December. It does not contain lipids, which is why its oil is actually an oily macerate obtained by cold maceration of its flowers in a stable vegetable oil. This maceration lasts about a month and allows to extract all its properties.
This orange-yellow oil is very effective and rich in active ingredients. Its numerous benefits have been recognized for thousands of years. As early as antiquity, calendula oil macerate was used as a remedy for many ailments: jaundice, plague, fever, dental problems, insomnia, ulcers, eye problems, etc. In the Middle Ages, it was even prescribed to heal wounds, soothe insect bites or snake bites.
In addition to being odorless, neutral and creamy, calendula oil has many virtues, including soothing and moisturizing. Naturally rich in faradiol, it relieves inflammations and irritations. It also contains a significant amount of flavonoids, which makes it a powerful antioxidant.
Its composition rich in essential fatty acids and vitamins makes it an excellent skin and hair care product!

How to make your own calendula oil?
You can also make your own calendula oil macerate at home! We give you a simple recipe for this miracle oil below:
Ingredients (dosages for a 100ml bottle):
- About 20g of dried calendula flowers (also called marigold flowers), preferably
- 100ml of organic vegetable oil such as sunflower oil, rapeseed oil, olive oil...
- An empty jar
It is best to sterilize and dry your jar with a clean cloth beforehand.
Cut the calendula flowers finely and put them in the jar. Cover them with the vegetable oil you have chosen, then close the jar with parchment paper and a rubber band.
Place the preparation in a place that gets a few hours of sunlight during the day. As it is a solar maceration, it will be done thanks to the heat, gently.
If, after 24 to 48 hours, you notice that the level of oil drops sharply, do not hesitate to add more oil to cover the flowers again.
Let the preparation macerate for at least three weeks, up to two months. We advise you to stir the preparation every day for a more concentrated maceration.
Once your maceration is finished, filter the preparation (using a clean cloth, for example, that you can wring out to extract all the oil from the flowers). You will then obtain an orange oil that you can transfer into a clean bottle (preferably sterilized).
Tip: for better conservation of the calendula oil macerate, you can add 2 to 4 drops of vitamin E (known for its conservation benefits).
Your calendula oil is ready! To be kept at room temperature between 6 and 12 months, away from heat, air, and light. To be used cutaneously only.
